Are Travel Agents worth booking with?

Should you Book with a Travel Agent?

Updated: Apr 14

Do you need to use a travel agent for your big trips? Always, a question that goes through my head to book my next big trip. Now every time for me, it is difficult to say as I have to look at more things when booking hotels. Not just finding the perfect hotel but working for a hotel company has some extra benefits and seeing if I could use them. Anyway that is me, let's look at if you should use a travel agent. To add-in, I am no expert on this subject but with my experience in the hospitality industry I have some knowledge of the subject.

Travel agents are great for helping you out and getting the right place for the right person for the right cost. My first trip outside of the family trips me and my best friend decided to go with a travel agent for this trip because at the time I didn't work for a hotel. We looked over a couple of places to find the right fit with the travel agent and she then suggested Punta Cana. Then from there, she talks about what places she has experienced and which places would be great to visit. After looking over some of the places my best friend and I decided on the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana.

For me booking trips now, I have to look outside of a travel agent as the benefits I get with my hotel company is great and has to be booked by myself. Now when booking I have to take the time and do the research to find the right place for what I am doing in the cities. Now don't get me wrong I love to do this to help me build my passion for that location and helps me drive a goal to get there. The perfect example of me planning my own trip is my post called Europe planning.

Now from having done both styles of booking, I think if you don't know of a good place to visit or not sure of the best way to approach booking your trip go with the Travel Agent. Some of the benefits are that the agent has taken the time to experience the locations they sell. Booking the trip you will be able to pay on a termbase instead of having to put down the full amount at one time. An agent will try to fit all your needs together for the trip and make sure everything goes seamlessly.

If you are like me and want to take on the challenge of booking the perfect trip. Then go for it as I said before this helps me understand my destination before I get there. Also, I like to have the ability to do this so I can lead to more of a Travel Consultant in my future life.

To answer the question should I look at going with a Travel Agent or do it myself. The best answer I have for you is to take the option that best fits your life at that time. The only thing I want to add is that if you are going to go and work with a travel agent then make sure you support them back. Do not talk with them and then book it yourself, as those agents has taken their time to make your trip the best trip ever.
